ABSTRACT

Deep generative models have advantages in modeling complex time series and are widely used in anomaly detection. Nevertheless, the existing deep generative approaches mainly concentrate on the investigation of models' reconstruction capability rather than customizing a model suitable for anomaly detection. Meanwhile, VAE-based models suffer from posterior collapse, which can lead to a series of undesirable consequences, such as high false positive rate etc. Based on these considerations, in this paper, we propose a novel self-adversarial variational auto-encoder combined with contrast learning, short for ACVAE, to address these challenges. ACVAE consist of three parts 〈T,E,G〉, wherein the transformation network T is employed to generate abnormal latent representations similar to those normal latent representations encoded by the encoder E, and the decoder G is used to distinguish the two representations. In the framework of this model, the normal reconstructions are considered as positive samples and abnormal reconstructions as negative samples, and the contrast learning is executed on the part E to measure the similarities between inputs and positive samples, dissimilarities between inputs and negative samples. Thus, an improved objective function is proposed by integrating two novel regularizers, one refers to adversarial mechanism and the other involves contrast learning, in which the encoder E and decoder G hold the capability to distinguish, and decoder G is constrained to mitigate the posterior collapse. We perform several experiments on five datasets, whose results show ACVAE outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Host genetics and environment participate in the shaping of gut microbiota. Diannan small ear pigs and Diqing Tibetan pigs are excellent native pig breeds in China and live in different environments. However, the gut microbiota of Diannan small ear pigs and Diqing Tibetan pigs were still rarely understood. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the composition characteristics of gut microbiota and metabolites in Diannan small ear pigs and Diqing Tibetan pigs. Methods: Fresh feces of 6 pigs were randomly collected from 20 4-month-old Diannan small ear pigs (DA group) and 20 4-month-old Diqing Tibetan pigs (TA group) for high-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) non-targeted metabolome analysis. Results: The results revealed that Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were the dominant phyla in the two groups. Chao1 and ACE indices differed substantially between DA and TA groups. Compared with the DA group, the relative abundance of Prevotellaceae, and Ruminococcus was significantly enriched in the TA group, while the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae, Actinomyces, and Butyricicoccus was significantly reduced. Cholecalciferol, 5-dehydroepisterol, stigmasterol, adrenic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid were significantly enriched in DA group, which was involved in the steroid biosynthesis and biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids. 3-phenylpropanoic acid, L-tyrosine, phedrine, rhizoctin B, and rhizoctin D were significantly enriched in TA group, which was involved in the phenylalanine metabolism and phosphonate and phosphinate metabolism. Conclusion: We found that significant differences in gut microbiota composition and metabolite between Diannan small ear pigs and Diqing Tibetan pigs, which provide a theoretical basis for exploring the relationship between gut microbiota and pig breeds.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Demoralization as cancer-related mental health needs to be understood and addressed by clinical staff. This review systematically examined the characteristics and outcomes of interventions for demoralization in patients with cancer. Seven databases-PubMed, PsycINFO, Cinahl, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, and Cochrane Library Databases of Systematic Reviews-were systematically searched for relevant literature. We included intervention studies focusing on interventions for demoralization in patients with cancer. We ultimately included 14 studies. Overall, 10 studies had a positive effect on improving demoralization in patients with cancer, including two main types of interventions: psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy and psychological interventions. This review summarizes information on interventions for demoralization in patients with cancer. To provide precise care for demoralization in patients with cancer, future studies should use more rigorous methods to test interventions that may affect demoralization.

ABSTRACT

Demoralization has been extensively studied in oncology and palliative care settings, and is characterized by a loss of meaning and purpose in life, a sense of powerlessness over life events, and a sense of helplessness. The objective of this systematic review is to synthesize the prevalence, associated factors, and adverse outcomes of demoralization in cancer patients by reviewing the literature of the last decade. Seven databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, CINAHL and Cochrane Library databases) were systematically searched from January 2012 to June 2022. Roughly speaking, the prevalence of demoralization in cancer patients ranges from 13.50% to 49.4%. A total of 45 factors are associated with demoralization, of which psychological factors have been studied more frequently in the last decade. There are nine outcomes related to demoralization, with the strongest evidence for the correlation between demoralization and suicidal ideation. The study emphasizes the complexity of factors associated with demoralization in cancer patients. There appears to be a intersection between the constructs of demoralization and depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation, which may explain the correlation between them.

ABSTRACT

A new piezoelectric inchworm actuator with screw clamping mechanisms has been developed recently for the wing folding mechanism of a small unmanned aircraft where the actuator power density is a great concern. Considering that the prototype actuator was designed just with engineering intuition and the performance optimization through experimental developments would take a vast amount of cost and time, a mathematical model was developed to investigate the actuator's critical design parameters and optimize its presently undesirable performance. Based on the lumped parameter method reported previously, and taking full account of the detailed modeling of the complex actuator housing and the actual nonlinear behaviors from the high-force contact and friction occurring at the screw-nut interface, as well as the output performance of the main drive elements including the piezoelectric stack and hollow ultrasonic motors (HUSMs), this model was built and then was experimentally verified for its accuracy and availability. Finally, nine design parameters were studied for their individual effect on the actuator's output using the proposed model. The simulation results indicate that the performance can be considerably improved by performing a slight modification to the prototype, and the dynamic modeling and parameter optimization methods used in this study can also serve as a useful reference for the design of similar piezoelectric inchworm actuators with intermittent clamping behaviors.

ABSTRACT

The requirements of large thrust in bidirectional motion, high specific power (power/weight ratio), reliable self-locking at power off state, and compact size envelope for various applications of existing piezoelectric actuators are still urgent. To address these challenges, this study makes full use of the piezoelectric material's excellent dynamic performance, robust force output, and high energy density to propose a novel inchworm piezoelectric actuator, which relies on the alternate clamping of two nuts independently rotated by two ultrasonic motors on a feed-screw in accordance with a piezoelectric stack (piezo-stack) excitation to accumulate the piezo-stack's electric field-induced strain periodically and realize power output. The operation principle and design process of the presented actuator were elaborated, and a prototype was fabricated and experimented. Results indicate that the actuator has achieved an expected bidirectional motion for powering the tensile load and compressive load, attained a micrometer-sized step resolution, produced a 3.08 mm/s free speed, a 700 N stall load, and a 1.34 W/kg specific power, and shown a favorable prospect for further development.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the difference of microbial communities among Diannan small-ear (DNSE), Dahe black (DHB) and Yorkshire (YS) pigs, we compared the microbial taxonomic and functional composition using a metagenomic approach. A total of 1,002,362 non-redundant microbial genes were identified, DHB and YS pigs had more similar genetic makeup compared with DNSE pigs. Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes and Spirochetes were the three most abundant phyla for all pig breeds, and DNSE pigs had a higher abundance of Prevotella genus than DHB and YS pigs. The functional profiles varied among the three pig breeds, DNSE pigs had more active carbohydrate metabolism and more abundant antibiotic resistance genes than the other two pig breeds. Moreover, we found that peptide and macrolide resistances genes in DNSE pigs were more abundant than that in DHB pigs (p < 0.05). This study will help to provide a theoretical basis for the development of native pig breeds in Yunnan Province, China.

ABSTRACT

Safety behavior is one of the focal concerns to occupational health researchers and safety managers. This study examined the relationship between authoritarian leadership and safety behavior based on social exchange theory and locus of control theory, and further explored the mediating role of trust in leadership and the moderating role of locus of control. In this study, a total of 636 employees from petroleum enterprises were recruited, with random sampling used to collect data in two stages. The result showed that: (1) Authoritarian leadership is significantly and negatively related to employees' safety compliance behavior and safety participation behavior. (2) Trust in leadership plays a partially mediating role in the impact of authoritarian leadership on employees' safety compliance behavior and safety participation behavior. (3) Locus of control moderates the first half of the pathway through which authoritarian leadership affects employees' safety behavior through trust in leadership. For externals, the negative effect of authoritarian leadership on their trust in leadership is stronger, which in turn decreases their safety compliance behavior and safety participation behavior.

ABSTRACT

The physiological state of the host affects the gut microbes. The estrus cycle is critical to the reproductive cycle of sows. However, the association between gut microbes and animal estrus is poorly understood. Here, high-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) non-targeted metabolome technology were used to study the estrous cycles in Diannan small ear pigs. Significantly different gut microbiota and metabolites of sows at estrous and diestrus were screened out and the correlation was analyzed. We found that the intestinal microbial composition and microbial metabolism of Diannan small ear sows were significantly different at diestrus and metestrus. The abundances of Spirochaetes, Spirochaetia, Spirochaetales, Spirochaetaceae, Deltaproteobacteria, unidentified_Alphaproteobacteria, Ruminococcus_sp_YE281, and Treponema_berlinense in intestinal microorganisms of Diannan small ear sows at metestrus are significantly higher than that at diestrus. Propionic acid, benzyl butyrate, sucrose, piperidine, and 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) were significantly enriched at metestrus compared with diestrus, which were involved in the energy metabolism-related pathways and activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway. At diestrus and metestrus, differential microbiota of unidentified_Alphaproteobacteria, Intestinimonas, Peptococcus, Terrisporobacter, and differential metabolites of piperidine, propionic acid, and benzyl butyrate, sucrose, 4-methyl catechol, and AICAR exist a certain degree of correlation. Therefore, unidentified_Alphaproteobacteria, Ruminococcus_sp_YE281, and Treponema_berlinense may have a potential role at metestrus of the Diannan small ear sows. AICAR may be apotential marker of estrus Diannan small ear sows feces, but further studies about the specific mechanism are needed. These findings provide a new perspective for sows production management and improving sows reproductive performance.

BACKGROUND: Maize is one of the most important food crops worldwide. Roots play important role in maize productivity through water and nutrient uptake from the soil. Improving maize root traits for efficient water uptake will help to optimize irrigation and contribute to sustainable maize production. Therefore, we investigated the protein profiles of maize cv. Anyu308 root system divided into Upper root zone (UR), Middle root (MR), and Lower root (LR), by label free quantitative shotgun proteomic approach (LFQ). The aim of our study was to identify proteins and mechanisms associated with enhanced water uptake in different maize root zones under automatic irrigation system. RESULTS: At field capacity, MR had the highest water uptake than the UR and LR. We identified a total of 489 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) by pairwise comparison of MR, LR, and UR. Cluster analysis of DAPs revealed MR and UR had similar protein abundance patterns different from LR. More proteins were differentially abundant in MR/UR compared to LR/MR and LR/UR. Comparisons of protein profiles indicate that the DAPs in MR increased in abundance, compared to UR and LR which had more downregulated DAPs. The abundance patterns, functional category, and pathway enrichment analyses highlight chromatin structure and dynamics, ribosomal structures, polysaccharide metabolism, energy metabolism and transport, induction of water channels, inorganic ion transport, intracellular trafficking, and vesicular transport, and posttranslational modification as primary biological processes related to enhanced root water uptake in maize. Specifically, the abundance of histones, ribosomal proteins, and aquaporins, including mitochondrion electron transport proteins and the TCA cycle, underpinned MR's enhanced water uptake. Furthermore, proteins involved in folding and vascular transport supported the radial transport of solute across cell membranes in UR and MR. Parallel reaction monitoring analysis was used to confirmed profile of the DAPs obtained by LFQ-based proteomics. CONCLUSION: The list of differentially abundant proteins identified in MR are interesting candidates for further elucidation of their role in enhanced water uptake in maize root. Overall, the current results provided an insight into the mechanisms of maize root water uptake.

ABSTRACT

A 60-year-old woman was admitted to our department for a left upper lobe and left lower lobe ground glass nodules. Three-dimensional computed tomography bronchography and angiography showed an aberrant anterior ascending segmental pulmonary artery (A3aii) branching from the lingular artery. We performed left upper division segmentectomy and left lower superior segmentectomy for ground glass opacity lesions, and the A3aii variation artery was safely dissected. The patient received an uneventful recovery, and the final pathologic diagnosis was early-stage multiple primary lung cancers. The A3aii branching of the lingular artery was extremely rare. Preoperative three-dimensional computed tomography bronchography and angiography was important to provide accurate vessel variation information and achieve accurate and safe segmentectomy procedure.

ABSTRACT

This paper proposes an action recognition algorithm based on the capsule network and Kalman filter called "Reading Pictures Instead of Looking" (RPIL). This method resolves the convolutional neural network's over sensitivity to rotation and scaling and increases the interpretability of the model as per the spatial coordinates in graphics. The capsule network is first used to obtain the components of the target human body. The detected parts and their attribute parameters (e.g., spatial coordinates, color) are then analyzed by Bert. A Kalman filter analyzes the predicted capsules and filters out any misinformation to prevent the action recognition results from being affected by incorrectly predicted capsules. The parameters between neuron layers are evaluated, then the structure is pruned into a dendritic network to enhance the computational efficiency of the algorithm. This minimizes the dependence of in-depth learning on the random features extracted by the CNN without sacrificing the model's accuracy. The association between hidden layers of the neural network is also explained. With a 90% observation rate, the OAD dataset test precision is 83.3%, the ChaLearn Gesture dataset test precision is 72.2%, and the G3D dataset test precision is 86.5%. The RPILNet also satisfies real-time operation requirements (>30 fps).

ABSTRACT

Robot-assisted prostate intervention under magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance is a promising method to improve the clinical performance compared with the manual method. An MR conditional 6-DOF prostate intervention serial robot is developed and a binocular vision system (BVS) is established to evaluate the needle placement accuracy and located the penetration point precisely. The robot is designed by the MR conditional criteria. The serial configuration of the robot provides adequate flexibility and large workspace and excellent friendliness to the physicians. The kinematics are deduced and the needle placement control flow is proposed according to the configuration of the robot. The robot-assisted prostate intervention is divided into two phases including needle placement and needle penetration. A custom-made robust BVS is developed to obtain the needle tip position automatically in the needle placement phase where the needle cannot be detected by the MRI for lack of hydrogen atom. A simple and general algorithm used for needle tip camera coordinate estimation is proposed. Experiments on the BVS validation and robot accuracy evaluation are performed. The experiment results show that the errors of the BVS are under 0.3621 mm and the position error of the proposed robot is 2.815 mm which indicate the adequate accuracy for the prostate intervention. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects and safety of intra-articular injection of mesenchymal stem cells on patients with knee osteoarthritis by a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were retrieved. An assessment of the risk of bias was done through the Cochrane Collaborative Bias Risk Tool, publication bias was assessed by plotting funnel plots and Egger tests. Pain and functional improvements in patients with knee osteoarthritis were determined by changes in VAS scores and WOMAC scores at baseline and follow-up endpoints. For the evaluation of MRI, the WORMS score and changes in cartilage volume were used. In addition, the number of adverse events in the intervention group and the control group were counted to explore the safety. RESULTS: A total of 10 randomized controlled trials involving 335 patients were included. In the pooled analysis, compared with the control groups, the VAS scores of MSC groups decreased significantly (MD,-19.24; 95% CI: -26.31 to -12.18, P < .00001. All of the WOMAC scores also improved significantly: the total scores (SMD, - 0.66; 95% CI: - 1.09 to -0.23, P = .003), pain scores (SMD, - 0.46; 95% CI: - 0.75 to -0.17, P = .002), stiffness scores (SMD, -0.32; 95% CI: -0.64 to 0.00 P = 0.05), and functional scores (SMD, -0.36; 95% CI: -0.69 to -0.04, P = .03). Two studies with non-double-blind designs were the main source of heterogeneity. In terms of cartilage repair, there was no significant difference in the WORMS score, but there was a significant increase in cartilage volume in the MSC group (SMD, 0.69; 95% CI: 0.25 to 1.13, P = .002). The proportion of patients with adverse events in the MSCs treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group (OR, 3.20; 95% CI: 1.50 to 6.83, P = .003). CONCLUSIONS: Intra-articular injection of mesenchymal stem cells is effective and safety to relieve pain and improve motor function of patients with knee osteoarthritis in a short term which is different to conclusions of previous study.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Docetaxel is a commonly used anti-tumor drug in clinic, especially as the first-line drug for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the molecular mechanism of docetaxel against NSCLC is still unclear. Increasing studies have shown that metabolic reprogramming of tumor cells plays an important role in tumorigenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of docetaxel on the metabolic pathway of NSCLC cells based on metabolomics analysis and biological means. METHODS: First, we performed CCK8 assay to analyze the effects of docetaxel on cell viability of NSCLC cells and also to screen the appropriate drug concentration. Then, the differential metabolites of docetaxel-treated and untreated NSCLC cells were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry based metabolomics. Finally, the effects of docetaxel on the expression levels of key enzymes that regulate the relevant metabolic pathways were determined by Western blot. RESULTS: Docetaxel inhibited cell viability of A549 and H1299 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. With the prolonged treatment time of docetaxel, the apoptotic sensitive protein poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) was gradually activated to form a P89 fragment. Metabolomics analysis showed that eight metabolites were significantly changed in both A549 and H1299 cells following docetaxel treatment, which were mainly in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle pathway. Moreover, after docetaxel treatment, the protein expression levels of isocitrate dehydrogenases, the key regulators of the TCA cycle, were obviously decreased in both A549 and H1299 cells. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the effect of docetaxel-induced proliferation inhibition and apoptosis in NSCLC might be associated with down-regulation of isocitrate dehydrogenases and suppression of the TCA cycle pathway.

ABSTRACT

The study of voice behavior examines the inclination of staff and team members to speak up and contribute ideas to the team. In this article, we investigate how factors such as leader-member exchange (LMX), psychological safety and psychological empowerment influence such behavior. Our findings, which are based on a sample of 308 employees working for a state-owned telecommunications company in China, indicate that ethical leadership promotes employees' voice behavior through enhanced LMX, which also leads to greater feelings of psychological safety and psychological empowerment. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed.
